Day 5 | Upper Mid-West Tour
Another fun filled day! I’m not sure I can make another 25 of these, ๐ and we haven’t even started the physically demanding stuff that starts when Jim and Amy Keffer arrive in about 5 days.
(Yes this is real and yes we were close, but behind a fence)

Off to the South Unit tomorrow.
(Yes this is real and yes we were close, but behind a fence)
Today we woke up at 6:00 and got an early start as we wanted to get to Roosevelt North Unit and have a great day. But when we were packing up, and getting ready to leave, I checked my battery levels and they were surprising low, around 62%. Which I am guessing you think isn’t very low, but after only 1 night and only having a refrigerator going and no heat or A/C as the weather has been amazing here, it should not have been that low. (And I spent a bunch of $$ upgrading my batteries and system, so they would last longer). I started emailing “my guy” that put the system in and he actually responded on a Saturday. We are still working through the possibilities, so we decided to cancel our campground at the Roosevelt NP that didn’t have electric or water, and we opted for a full hook up campground that is in town and not in the National Park. This added about an hour to our day because we checked into the campground 1st before heading to the North Unit. We want to charge the batteries to 100% before we camp in the NP tomorrow night, again with no electric or water.
Enough of the technical problems, and on to the fun. We got suckered into doing a tourist trap, The Enchanted Highway. It starts on the interstate I-94 and then heads south for 30 miles. We did too many of the miles, maybe 10-15. Here are the results.
After the Enchanted Highway we headed to our new campground, although we knew the time zone change was coming soon, we thought it was at the state line, but no it happened before Medora where the South Unit is located, and coincidentally the North Unit is still central time. Anyway, we had an extra hour on our hands and that’s why we did some of the Enchanted Highway.
The North Unit of Roosevelt National Park is supposed to be the less traveled, because of the distance off of the interstate. And it seemed pretty empty to us, which is so nice to visit a National Park in th summer and not have to wait in lines of people or cars. I was also able to get a nice ride in as well this afternoon.
Here are some of the amazing pictures. And the amazing thing is when you are standing there, it just doesn’t even look real. Truly amazing views, and the pictures just don’t do it justice.
Off to the South Unit tomorrow.
