Day 27, 28, 29, 30 | Upper Mid-West Tour
So this post is a little delayed and my apologies, I was prodded by several of you to post an up date and how things are going. All is good, just been doing a little driving, and exploring. We will be home tomorrow afternoon, 7/5.
Our first day on the road and amazingly the traffic has not been bad at all, really just surprisingly light. The only thing we could think of was that we left early and others are leaving later on the day or are already at the place that they were heading?? Anyway, it was light all day. We headed to a Harvest Host for this nights stay at a Buffalo Ranch, Rocky Hollow Buffalo Company. A nice farm, EXCEPT for all of the pollen. It was windy and I saw pollen blowing off of some wildflowers and it literally looked like smoke it was so heavy. Needless to say, it was a rough night for me. The good news is that I got to ride my bike around the farm and see the Bison and the farm, and we also purchased some ground bison and some ribeyes. We had some of the ground bison tonight (July 4th) for dinner. That’s about as American as we can get this year.
Day 28, Sunday 7/2
Because of the rough night last night with the coughing and sneezing π€§, I was up early and had us ready to go long before the 2 others were ready to go. π I had to get out of there. It wasn’t the farm’s fault, but I can only handle so much of that stuff. Today we were off to somewhere on the west side of Lincoln, but since we were up so early, we added a few more miles and changed our place to a small “cute” little city park/Ag Center/ County Fairgrounds all mixed into one. They had about 8 RV sites, which were great. We were able to get there and drop our money into the reservation box, and hooked up and we were good. No internet reservation system, no credit cards, just cash. π. It was like the old days.
Again the traffic was very light, only thing we could think of is no one wanted to be in Nebraska. π
Speaking of the old days check out this little diner/burger/ice cream shake that we ate at. And it was very good, I had a peanut butter milk shake, and Lynn had the chocolate ice cream for dessert, and of course burgers, fries and tater tots.
Day 29, Monday 7/3
Last night we had a reservation at another Harvest Host, Arcadian Moon Winery. As we continue to head east and south, it is getting a LOT more HUMID and HOT!! We were at 4800’ of elevation in Wyoming and we have clearly lost a lot of that. In any case we opted to pay an additional fee for full hook ups, which included electricity to run our A/C’s. It was a good call. We could have used our generator that runs on propane, but since we arrived around 1:30, we figured we would pay for the full hook ups and save our propane for another time, and it is probably more efficient to use the electricity, instead of making my own.
We had a great time here, walking around the lake, listening to music for 3 hours, and having some wood fired pizza.
Day 30, Tuesday July 4th
Today we headed out early and hit the road heading to IL, we are on I-24 not far from the KY border, and about 200 miles from Nashville. Amazingly we still haven’t had any real traffic to speak of this July 4th weekend, even around Lincoln, and St. Louis.
We are staying at a campground that was an old golf course.
We just walked around part of it as the sun was going down some, so the temps aren’t quite as bad. It’s going to take some time to get re-acclimated to the heat and humidity. And maybe even more time for me to be able to keep up with my biking buddies. Jerry is going to try to kill me again when he gets back from MN. π©
Tomorrow we are heading out to bring the Airstream back to our storage unit in Nashville near the airport. We will need to clean it out and get all of the clothes, food, and extras that we have in there out. We can’t leave anything in there that might attract insects, mice, roaches, etc.
We will be home for about 3 weeks before we head out for our next adventure. We are going to Australia π¦πΊ, and Grant will be joining us. He was fortunate enough to get another promotion and they gave him an additional 2 weeks vacation this year with a bonus. He is required to take the extra 2 weeks, when we go to Australia, hence why we are going then. Should be a great trip, the last time we did a big trip was right before covid, and we went to Peru.
See ya soon, and thanks for following along.
